Silver Spoon has became one of my favorite anime. I watched the whole two seasons that have been released and I want to read the counting story from the manga later on.
Livestocks are animals, and animals are not just animals. This is a story that happened in agricultural high school. As you would think, it involves a lot of stories about animals, and it makes me think about animals differently. Hachiken was very entangled with the pig he raised. He watched him born and named it Katsuton. Katsuton is the youngest among his siblings. Every time he eats, he will be squeezed to the side. So Hachiken gave him a lot Extra care. The students initially refused to let Hachiken name the animal, because they had experienced the pain of having a relationship with the animals and finally watched them become the food in the plate. But Hachiken did so in the end.
Hachiken was sad when he gave away Katsudon. He bought the Katsudon's meat with his hard-earned holiday wages and used his meat to make delicious pork barbecue and bacon. Hachiken and his classmates enjoyed it Katsudon. The classmates were all born in farms with raised livestock. Barely anyone struggled to raise these animals and then eat them. They all thought that this was a natural thing, but Hachiken made everyone think again. Whether something is taken for granted is really taken for granted.
In this anime, animals are placed on the same status as humans. People do not domesticate them, but rely on them. Because of them, we can survive better. Because of them, we have a better life. So when the animals are alive, we try to take care of them as much as possible, and when they become food on the table, we have to enjoy it as much as possible, not disappointing every food.
